focus, concentration, eyes fixed on god

FOCUS

Isaiah 26:3, NLT “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”

That seems near impossible in today’s world. But God has been whispering “FOCUS” into every part of my being this week. I didn’t understand until just now why He had this in the soundtrack of my mind. But as a single, I think God especially cares about what I do with my time, my mind, my body, my finances. My everyday life.

You see, I’ve found that quite a few married folk believe singles are free to “live it up”, so they probably think we have significant character flaws – after all, we don’t have spouses and/or children to soak up our extra time and energy. We can spend our money as we wish. We can go wherever we want, whenever we want. CHOOSE who want. We don’t have to think about anybody but ourselves. We have no focus, no goals. Running RAMPANT. But it’s quite the contrary. I’ve found that it feels as though God is MORE demanding of my energy and my time. The times I don’t give what He’s asking, I see how I missed out in the long run. I have to be very focused or else I really can fall off the deep end with all sorts of activities and even people that move me far, far away from God.

The less I focus on God, the more unhappy I am. The more I focus on what someone else has, what they’re doing as it compares to me – the less I hear from God and see Him. I think the spirit of comparison so easily attaches itself to single people because we’re often taught to believe that we’re not whole until we find that right person.

And it is hard to focus on God when you are so aware of what is missing from your life. Until you realize that you can never go wrong trusting God. It’s just as easy to be grateful with God in every moment as it is to point out everything you don’t have. But it is much BETTER to focus on God and everything He has given you. Because once you do, you’ll find that He has plenty for you to do.
