Rejoice in Trouble

James 1: 2 – 4, NLT: Dear brothers and sisters,[a] when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

The first time I read this I asked “Why would I REJOICE over TROUBLE?” But as life goes on I realize the best time of my life were when I was in trouble – whether it was serious or not. It allowed me to see that I am only me but God is God. It allowed me to see I cannot make it in this life alone. Best of all, trouble allowed me to have real faith in God. When you’ve come to the end of your rope, the end of yourself, and you have no more options left, you’re a prime candidate to see God for who He really is.

To take it from the perspective of being single…very few singles have “the gift of singleness”. I believe this means that if you press into God genuinely and consistently regarding His intentions for you with marriage, He will respond. He did it for me, so I know He can do it for you. Therefore, use the “troubling” experience of being single to your ultimate advantage. Use ALL the free time you have to do things that you love doing, serve people you love serving and most importantly, love the God who made you. Use this time to become the most attractive you…so when your husband looks at you he KNOWS you’re the one God placed in his heart. Use this time to pray for your husband and pray that God will open your eyes to make it plain that he’s the one after you meet.

The day will come that you two will meet. Pray that you are ready for him and that he’s ready for you, and that anything you miss in preparation doesn’t keep you from growing together.

Rejoice in trouble. Remember all things come to an end. Prepare for God’s best.
